Putney Foodshelf will be open for extended curbside Open Hours on Saturday, April 4 from 9–11 am, and every following Saturday. Tuesday Open Hours are canceled for the time being.

If you can’t make it to Open Hours, email covid19putneyfoodshelf@gmail.com or call 802-387-8551 and we will make a plan for you to get food. Please pass the word on to others who may not have internet access.

Putney residents Jim and Carolyn Olivier are using their wood-fired oven to bake for a good cause: Putney Foodshelf. While the Oliviers typically bake for friends and neighbors, they completed online ServSafe training and plan to have around 100 sourdough rolls available for Foodshelf customers at weekly Saturday Open Hours.

The rolls — made of King Arthur bread flour, sourdough starter, salt, and water — are baked in a wood-fired oven at 450F+. The interior temperature when they are done is at least 180F, so they are sterile. Wearing masks and gloves, the Oliviers transfer the rolls to a sanitized surface to cool, and then package them in bread bags. Note that people who have additional concerns about virus contamination from handling can reheat the rolls in a toaster oven or toaster before eating.

Putney Foodshelf extends our deep gratitude to the Oliviers for their generous — and delicious — donation.
